Theme: Old Wine in New Bottles: New Ways of Teaching
Novels, Writing, and Rhetoric
The
College English Association of Ohio (CEAO) invites papers, panels, and
roundtables for its fall 2008 conference to be held Friday October 24, 2008, at Ohio
University-Chillicothe (OUC). Proposals are invited from full-time faculty,
adjunct and part-time instructors, administrators, graduate students, as well
as individuals working/living both inside and outside Ohio. All proposals
submitted by the extended deadline, September 25,
2008, will be considered. Please note that presenters and participants must
register for the conference.
Keynote
Speaker: Don Pollock,
author of Knockemstiff (and an OUC alumnus)
A. New takes on teaching best-loved novels
(English, American, Post-Colonial, etc.).
B. Novel methods of creating stylistically
literate critical thinkers, readers, and writers. (Ohio is already working on a
state-wide initiative to increase access to higher education to its citizens;
it would be good to ensure a love of literature and writing amongst college
graduates as well.)
C.
Administrative issues such as Ohio’s seniors-to-sophomores program,
professional- ization roundtables, reallocation of state funds, new state-led
initiatives, etc.

Please send a) the Proposal Form, b) your Abstract (250-300 words for
individuals, 700 for panels/ roundtables), and c) a one-page
CV via Microsoft Word to kasbekar@ohio.edu
and to amy.england@uc.edu. Abstracts
received by the due date will be acknowledged, and a response sent by the end
of September, if not earlier.
